Geoff's Review
See: State Cinemas (Nelson)
The recently upgraded Suter Cinema serves as an adjunct screen for State Cinemas (Nelson) and occupies a central place in the interesting and popular Suter Gallery.
The long-running Summer Film Festival, which operates from early December to late January, is a special event and features a great mix of recent art house titles, classic film, opera on film, and documentaries--which include New Zealand releases. There is also an interesting range of films screening throughout the year.
The Suter Cinema hosts other film festivals--most importantly, the Nelson programme for the NZ International Film Festival, but also the French FF and Italian FF, in addition to Met Opera and NT Live.
The 2019-2020 Summer Film Festival featured a 1960s/space theme, to coincide with the 'Our Moon' exhibition at the Hamilton Provincial Museum and the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 flight.
The Cinema also hosts screenings for the Nelson Film Society (which is so popular it has a waiting list for membership) on Thursday evenings. Check the State website ('switch to Suter') for details. Together the State, with its nine screens, film-goers in Nelson are well provided for.
