Geoff's Review
This stylish new Auckland cinema, along with the companion eight screen Silky Otter in Wigram (Canterbury), belies the claim that cinemas are disappearing from New Zealand cities. It is very much in the style of contemporary boutique cinema: two screens, with top-of-the-line projection/sound, quality seating, a good mix of contemporary film releases, and good food.
In my initial visit, I had trouble finding it as I am not familiar with this part of Auckland and there wasn't a prominent Cinema sign along Orakei Road.. But you find Silky Otter at the rear of the Orakei Bay Village; a cluster of upmarket shops which overlook the Orakei Basin. Or, you can park behind the Village, adjacent to the giant King's Garden Centre, and take the external stairs or lift.
Check out the rather lovely Ampersand restaurant in the Village.
I will endeavour to visit the companion Silky Otter in Wigram (Christchurch) soon./
