Geoff's Review
Only a short detour from SH1 which skirts the retirement/dormitory town of Waikanae is the Shoreline Cinema, which offers a welcoming environment for affluent, older locals. Waikanae is primarily a retirement community but SH1 bring a continuous flow of travellers through the town, including holiday-makers and weekend trippers. Film offerings are very much oriented towards art house films but also with school holiday fare.
The Shoreline opened more than a decade ago, when there wasn't a cinema between Palmerston North and Wellington and the arrival of newer venues in towns and villages like Levin and Puautahanui, demonstrates that there is a large and loyal market for art house films in this part of the North Island.
Recent comments in the Visitor's Book at the Shoreline include: "Best theatre I've ever been to. I'll be back" and "Splendid environment. Sensational service".
Well worth a visit. Every Tuesday is Seniors Day, with $10 tickets.
