Geoff's Review
Located in the Dunedin CBD, close by the Octagon, the historic Rialto is built over three levels. It is linked to the Rialto Newmarket, Auckland
In addition to modern facilities and an excellent range of films, you have a special treat when you walk up a sloping entrance-way, which has preserved some of the glory of the old St.James Theatre from earlier days (lovely touches of deep blue and gold). The smaller screens are particularly comfortable venues.
The street frontage is particularly lovely at night; just look for the bright star.
The Rialto is one of three cinemas in the Dunedin CBD, with the Town Hall Metro (art house) and Readings (multiplex) nearby. The Rialto features both mainstream and art house titles, and is the venue for film festivals (including the NZIFF and French Film festival), and provides Met Opera and National Theatre screenings.
