. Geoff's Review
Situated next to the Ashburton Trust Events Centre (which features local and touring shows), the Regent Ashburton might, at first appearances, seem like a run-of-the-mill cineplex. But looks can be deceiving as it is a privately-owned, community-oriented venue which is run by one of the most cheerful cinema managers (Dave) I have ever encountered. It offers a good mix of mainstream and art house films, with screenings every day of the week.
Because the Regent Ashburton is the only cinema of significance between the town and Christchurch except for the Apollo, a little boutique cinema recently opened in Lincoln, it serves a wide area. But there are plans for a new cinema complex in the burgeoning commuter town of Rolleston.
Note the magazine rack in the foyer!
