Geoff's Review
It is appropriate that Reefton has its own independent cinema (est. 1951), as it is the town in New Zealand to first install a public electricity supply and provide street lighting. As it is the only sizeable inland population centre on the West Coast, it still feels a little isolated as it is surrounded by a vast tract of conservation forest. Tourists stop to explore the gold-mining and coal-mining heritage of the town.
The cinema, which is connected with the NBS Theatre in Westport, screens a minimum of 4 times per week, with additional screenings in the school holidays. Offerings are a mix of mainstream and art house films. Tickets are available at the cinema.
