Geoff's Review
MTG stands for Museum/Theatre/Gallery and is the new persona of the Hawke's Bay Art Museum, which closed for renovations two years ago, re-opening in September 2013 with a shiny new frontage on to 1 Tennyson Street and the Marine Parade attractions of this 'Art Deco' city.
The Theatre was built in the 1977 as a 'modernist masterpiece' and has been re-integrated back into the new complex, as a setting for performing arts, films and lectures. It has shifted away from offering a scheduled programme of films; nistread it now focuses on film festivals (at least four per year) and most recently screened offering from the New Zealand International Film Festival over 19 days. Film screening also accompany exhibitions and special events at MTG.
