Geoff's Review
Formerly operating as the Ascot, this cinema complex is affiliated to the Rialto chain.
A little difficult to find as it is tucked away at the far end of The Mall carpark, but worth a visit for its mix of mainstream and art house titles. Manager Jason describes their offerings as ‘Mini-mainstream, but with a bit of art house ... with a particular liking for horror films!’
With a very spacious foyer and excellent screens, this cinema complex does add life to the Upper Hutt CBD, which ailing somewhat. But giving the changing demographics of this upper region of the Hutt Valley (younger families moving in), the Monterey should continue to thrive.
