Geoff's Review
Situated between two Japanese restaurants on busy Manukau Road, the Lido Epsom is the companion cinema to the Lido Hamilton (it formerly included The Capitol on Dominion Road, as a ‘mini-chain’). Managed by Richard Dalton, these two cinemas display a real style and appreciation of film-going as a special experience. The Lido Epsom features two spacious lounges for patrons to sit by the fire, have a coffee, pick up a book from the shelves--before being shown to their seats by young, attentive ushers.
This cinema feels 'just right' once you step inside, with nice touches (fresh flowers) and the atmosphere of a well-cared-for venue.
Features a good range of recent art house releases (but a 3-D and popcorn-free zone), with a good mix of patrons (older patrons in the daytime; young professionals in the evening) Aucklanders travel across town to this cinema, and can find parking adjacent to the cinema, or on adjacent side streets.
As a Hamiltonian, I am indebted to the Lido Epsom and to Richard Dalton for the similar attention he has bestowed on the Lido Hamilton--a cinema which provides the very best film-going experience in my city.
Update Oct 2019: the Lido (Epsom) will restructure its screens over the coming months, to offer three screens (140/50/40 seat screens).
