Geoff's Review
As you drive through the small Northland town of Kawakawa (best known for its Hundertwasser-designed public toilets), look out for the lovely old King's Theatre. Opened in 1936 and once heralded as "The showplace of the Bay of Islands", this cinema was overtaken by time and fashion and closed in 1976. The ground floor of the building is now a second-hand store but if you ask nicely, you might get to see the movie memorabilia upstairs and the grand old screen which hides behind an anonymous door at the rear.
There are tentative plans to screen films again, with an emphasis on the Hundertwasser connection, and I wish them well.
