Geoff's Review
This cinema is centrally situated in the lake resort of Te Anau; the 'Gateway to Fiordland'. It has extended its screenings, beyond the short tourist-oriented documentary Ata Whenua it continues to screen, to also provide an interesting programme of recent releases, with an art house focus. It provides an added attraction for the many thousands of tourists who journey to this famed region in the deep south of New Zealand. It would be a great option on those days when rain and mist descends on the fjords.
Previously the Routeburn Track was the closest I had ever got to this part of New Zealand, so this cinema provided a real incentive to visit.
Update January 2022: I have finally got to visit Te Anau (and Doubtful Sound and Milford Sound) and the Fiordland Cinema. The town was quiet, with the absence of foreign tourists, but the cinema seemed busy, screening art` films such as House of Gucci and West Side Story. Be sure to make a stop at the Black Dog Bar, before or after your film.
